Area Agency on Aging Celebrates their 50th Anniversary at the Annual Meeting

Ontario OH - The Ohio District 5 Area Agency on Aging, Inc. Annual Meeting was held on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center in Mansfield. Nearly 260 service providers, Corporate Board, Foundation, Advisory Council members, STARS Advisory members, community partners, staff, and dignitaries were in attendance.

 

Platinum Sponsors included Mechanics Bank, Freedom Caregivers, and ES Consulting. The proceeds from the Annual Meeting will provide scholarships for students pursuing a field of study, certification program, or degree related to aging services.

 

Chief Clinical Officer, Diane Ramey and Board President Jason Painley presided over the event, which celebrated the Area Agency on Aging’s accomplishments in 2024 and recognized the Agency’s 50th Anniversary which included highlights from the leadership of Chief Executive Officer Duana Patton. Duana, who became the third CEO of the Agency in 2006, has played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s impact and responding to the evolving needs of the community.

Jason Painley remarked, “The 50th Anniversary of the Area Agency on Aging is a milestone that is not just a reflection of our past – it’s a celebration of the present and a commitment to the future.”

 

During the meeting, the Area Agency on Aging recognized the following individuals and organizations:

• The Project Collaboration award was presented to Richland County Regional Planning.
• The Elected Official award was presented to Mayor Steven Schag of Shelby.
• The Advocate of the Year award was presented to Margaret Ann Ruhl.
• The Award of Excellence was presented to Steve Andrews of the Metropolitan Housing Authority.
• Inducted into the AAA Hall of Fame was Doug McLarnan (posthumously).
